加拿大老人造了个一万尺的地下避难所 能防核弹

很多人都有“末日情结”。看看当年PlayStation 3的游戏《最后生还者》(The Last of Us)有多火爆,你就该知道了。不过,绝大多数人的“末日情结”也只限于玩玩这类的游戏、看看相关主题的小说或电影,仅此而已。
        不过,今天我们介绍的这个加拿大老大爷,他的“末日情结”真可以用叹为观止来形容了:为了准备末日的来临,他竟然在自家建了一个万多平方英尺的地下避难所。

        据本地英文媒体《国家邮报》(National Post)报道,这位老大爷名叫比奇(Bruce Beach),现年83岁,是安省Horning's Mills镇(多伦多西北约两百公里)居民。
        比奇大爷原籍美国。在1960年代美苏争霸闹冷战,核战阴云密布,两大国各有数千枚核弹瞄准对方(那可是足以毁灭地球的数量),准备随时发射,连时任总统肯尼迪都呼吁民众在自家后院筑建防空洞。比奇一看形势不对,拖着妻子就跑到加拿大来了。
        加拿大比美国和平得多,但是比奇大爷估计是天天看美国电视听美国广播,预防核战争的思想深入骨髓,总觉得自家不安全,于是想着为自家人修建一个避难所。
        要换作普通人,估计这个念头也就是一晃而过罢了,因为就算有这心,咱也不够“汗滴”(handy)啊,避难所说建就能建啊?可比奇大爷不同,他当年学的就是电力工程,是有执照的,而且还当过承包商,搞建筑可算是本行。于是从1980年开始,他正式启动避难所工程,还取了个高大上的名儿——“方舟2号”(Ark Two)。

        避难所的地点,设在比奇住所附近,一块12.5英亩的私人土地上,其主体由42辆废旧校巴组成,那是以每辆300元的价钱买来的。比奇先挖了一个大坑,然后将校巴一辆辆开进去,以钢筋加固,上面再铺上泥土和混凝土。
        比奇还在避难所里按功能划分了区域,有住宿区、儿童区、娱乐区、洗浴区、娱乐区、医疗区等等,还购置了大量的装备,大到发电机,小到收音机,应有尽有。在储藏间里,他还囤积了大量的罐装食品、饮用水。
        这个避难所,据比奇说,可以容纳350人。
        避难所修好了,美苏关系却缓和了。又过了两年,苏联都解体了,毁灭世界的核战争看起来是打不起来了。不过,比奇不觉得自己的时间白花了——虽然没有核战争,可谁知道末日什么时候会来临呢?
        然而,随着时间的过去,这个避难所已经越来越破旧,内部非常潮湿。从2000年开始,邻近的雪本市(Shelburne)的消防部门曾多次以公众安全为由,要求封闭避难所,但都被比奇拒绝。消防部门曾让省警介入,强制封闭这里,但是省警表示无权这样做,因为这是消防部门的责任。
        就这样,在双方的踢皮球下,比奇的避难所终究是保留下来了。今天比奇已83岁了,仍然经常在避难所里活动,做做维护工作,还有就是打扫打扫保存了30多年的食品罐头上的灰尘等等。
        尽管周围的人都叫比奇“疯子”,可他不以为然,而且还广泛招募志同道合者。如有人愿意周末到他的避难所里做义工,日后末日来了,就可以获得进入避难所的门票。

Beach said he tried to make the underground sanctuary as comfortable as home, and built a brig, a mortuary, a dentist' s chair, a decontamination room. He also included multiple sets of chess to pass time and a box of radiation suits

Though there is currently some food in the underground bunker, there isn't nearly enough. He said that through the years he and his wife have had to throw away hundreds of tons of canned goods that have gone bad

The air in the bunker is damp and there isn't much lighting, and moisture beaded up on the ceiling. Walls and floors are covered in bad-smelling mold that has grown over time
